It is difficult to have so many friends without a doubt, but there are many people who are either very sociable and have a large number of friends or famous personalities who do not want to leave anyone out of their Facebook profile. The latter not infrequently prefer to have a profile than a page since it allows certain very attractive things that having a page could not carry out.
The social network must have been thinking about this prohibition and has decided to withdraw it so that any user can already have more than 5.000 friends, with what this means, for the better, but also for the worse, and that is that spam by any user can be just around the corner.
